The Mexican brothers’ latest production is nominated in the category for “Best Latin Urban Album”
(Miami, FL) Thursday, December 4, 2008 – Brother’s Sergio and Franciso Gomez, know collectively as the groundbreaking hip-hop duo AKWID have been nominated for a Grammy in the category for “Best Latin Urban Album”. The nominations for the 51st Grammy Awards were announced yesterday in the Mexican duo’s hometown of Los Angeles, CA. The nod was for the group’s latest production LA NOVELA, an album that was released in late 2007 and received critical acclaim for its cinematic concept and breakthrough collaborations.
This is the fourth time that Akwid has been nominated for a prestigious Grammy Award. "5 albums 4 nominations… the academy has respectfully acknowledged our passion for the music and the hard work and pride that we take in doing so and it shows when we get hit with such a huge surprise" proclaimed Sergio Gomez after finding out the news about the nomination for “La Novela”
"It's just a great feeling knowing that what you love doing and pour all your effort into doesn’t go unrecognized. It inspires us to keep going and shows that we must be doing something right,” added brother Francisco Gomez.
Since their breakthrough album “Proyecto Akwid” propelled the duo to the top of the Latin music scene in 2003 fueled by the national radio success of the hit single “No Hay Manera”, Akwid has maintained their role as one of the most innovative and consistent brands in Latin urban music. They introduced the world to the fusion of regional Mexican elements with hip-hop music and our recognized as the innovators of the sound that has been emulated by various other groups since. In August of ’08, the duo was presented with a plaque by Machete Music for more than one million combined career albums sold.
“La Novela”, the Grammy nominated release, once again showcases the group’s originality and innovation as it is a concept album that introduces the tracks as episodes in a musical story depicting struggles and experiences that are based on the Mexican brother’s childhood and youth. The musical “soap opera” is further enhanced with stellar participations by some of Regional Mexican music’s biggest stars including Fidel Rueda, Raul Hernandez, Rocio Sandoval “La Peligrosa”, El Flaco Elizalde, Palomo and Jenni Rivera.
The album has been one of Akwid’s most successful releases to date and includes the hit singles “Ombligo a Ombligo” feat. Los Tucanes de Tijuana and the latest single “La Novela”, a collaboration with the popular duo Voces Del Rancho.
The winners for the 51st Grammy Awards will be announced in February of 2009.

La mas reciente produccion de los hermanos Mexicanos esta nominada en la categoría de “Mejor Album Latino Urbano”
(Miami, FL) Jueves 4 de Deciembre, 2008 – Los hermanos Sergio y Francisco Gómez, mas conocidos en el mundo del hip-hop como el dúo AKWID han sido nominados en el día de ayer a los Premios Grammy en la categoría “Mejor Álbum Latino Urbano”. Las nominaciones para las 51 entrega del premio Grammy fueron anunciadas en la ciudad de Los Ángeles, cuidad origen del dúo. La nominación que obtuvieron fue por su más reciente producción LA NOVELA, un álbum que salio a la venta a finales del año 2007 y el cual ha recibido las mejor criticas gracias a su concepto cinematográfico e interesantes colaboraciones musicales.
“Esta es la cuarta vez que Akwid han sido nominado a un prestigioso premio Grammy.. 5 álbumes – 4 nominaciones. La academia ha reconocido y valorado la pasión por la música y por el esfuerzo que se ha hecho. Desde el lanzamiento de su primer álbum “Proyecto Akwid” el dúo se ha mantenido en los mas altos reglones de los charts de música hispana en Los Estados Unidos. Con su éxito radial en el 2003 “No Hay Manera’ el grupo ha mantenido su papel demostrando ser de los mas innovadores y originales grupos musicalmente en el panorama musical hispano.
Recientemente el grupo fue presentado por su disquera Machete Music con una placa por haber superar mas de un millón de copias- en ventas - de todas sus producciones.
Ya con esta importante nominación “La Novela”, presenta y expone la original propuesta de este talentoso dúo musical. “La Novela” incluye participaciones con los artista mas grandes de la música regional del momento como Fidel Rueda, Raúl Hernández, Rocío Sandoval “La Peligrosa”, El Flaco Elizalde, Palomo y Jenny Rivera.
