Carolina Giraldo Navarro’s musical career began at the age of 14 when the native of Medellin, Colombia participated in X Factor; a reality show where she performed for the first time. Karol G studied music at the University of Antioquia (Universidad de Antioquia) in Medellín and she later specialized as a music industry entrepreneur in the United States. She then returned to Colombia and began working as an independent artist until 2016 when she signed a recording agreement with Universal Music Latino.
In 2017, her collaborative single with Bad Bunny titled “Ahora Me Llama” was released and quickly gained over 670 million views on YouTube and has reached the top of the charts across Latin America and the US. She then released her first album “Unstoppable” which debuted #1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and became the biggest debut for a Latin female urban artist in the US in recent years. The album was quickly certified 2X Platinum by the RIAA in the US. At the beginning of 2018, she released “Mi Cama,” which was followed by a remix featuring J Balvin & Nicky Jam. The official video and the remix video of the song have amassed a combined 650M views thus far. The song also earned Karol G her first #1 on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart. She later released “Culpables” with Anuel AA which debuted #1 on YouTube’s Global Videos chart, iTunes Latino and Top 20 on Apple Music in 9 countries. Karol G is currently the top Latin female touring act with over 108 concerts in 2018 across North, Central & South America, Europe and the Middle East.
Karol G won “Best Female Artist” at HTV’s 2016 Heat Latin Music Awards and was nominated for “Producers Choice Award” at Univision’s Premios Juventud 2016 where she performed her hit single “Casi Nada.” She was also nominated for a Latin AMA in 2016 for “Best New Urban Artist.” Last year, she was honored by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation with the “Inspira Award” at the 31st Hispanic Heritage Awards where she delivered a rendition of “Lo Sabe Dios” accompanied by a 35-piece orchestra. Then she won the Best New Artist category and was nominated to Best Urban Song with “Mi Cama” in the 2018 Latin GRAMMYs. She is currently nominated to Univision’s Premio Lo Nuestro in 3 categories. She also has received nods for Billboard Latin Music Awards, MTV EMA’s, iHeart Radio Music Awards and more.
Today, Karol G is the undisputed queen of Latin music and has successfully taken her fresh take on Latin urban music to global fame. She is currently the #1 Latin Female Artist in the world ranking atop all digital music platforms with over 4.6 billion music streams and having appeared in over 15 Billboard charts throughout her career, the Colombian newcomer is a force to be reckoned with.
