The soulful, powerhouse singer/songwriter Pitizion is from Colombia and writes impressive urban melodies
that tell her life’s story, captivating listeners. Colombian, Multi-Grammy award winning producer, Andres
Saavedra describes Pitizion’s music as “very different, a real way of modern commercial music”. Even her
name tells a story. Pitizion, meaning “tiny dreadlocks”, is the stage name of Maria Del Pilar. Originally “Piti”
was a family nickname given to her because of her tiny physical frame. As she grew older that nickname
turned into “Pitizion” because of her growing dreadlocks. All stories have a beginning and Pitizion’s started
in Granada, Colombia.
As a young child, she lived in the Colombian Llano, rural flatlands with farms and many fields. However,
living in a rural area with limited commodities helped Pitizion to have dreams that were greater than most
children her age. Growing up with a mother who was constantly singing around the house, Pitizion started
singing herself at a young age and hoped to sing in prestigious places one day. With her father’s
encouragement, she would send VHS videos of her performing at home to her grandmother, who lived in
the United States. After becoming comfortable in front of a video recorder, Pitizion started singing for
neighbors and at parties around her small town. At 14, Pitizion and her family moved to the United States.
Her father’s new job required him to drive frequently and Pitizion would join him while singing next to him in
the car. Unfortunately, not long after starting this job, Pitizion’s father passed away. His death inspired her
to start writing songs.
These songs started by Pitizion writing letters to her deceased father, writing down things that were difficult
for her to say verbally. From these letters, she would create lyrics for songs which enabled Pitizion to sing
the things she wanted to say out loud. Deciding from this point that she truly was meant to be a singer,
Pitizion started to write more music to express who she was and decided she wanted to share her passion
with the world. As she grew older she began singing in bars to gain experience with a live audience.
Pitizion’s childhood dreams turned into even larger dreams as she reached adulthood. While working hard
on her music, Pitizion reached over 94 thousand followers on Instagram where she was able to post
singing and rapping videos. Recently, the 26 year old Pitizion was discovered on Instagram by Andres
Saavedra, who viewed her singing videos and immediately passed them up the ladder to the general
manager of Universal Music Latin Entertainment, Alejandro Duque. Duque was highly impressed and excited
by her talent. Not long after, Pitizion was signed to Universal Music Latin Entertainment.
Pitizion hopes to inspire an audience of strong-willed, passionate dreamers to conquer whatever their heart
desires. Drawing inspiration from some of her favorite artists like Amy Winehouse, Joaquin Sabina and
numerous urban underground artists, Pitizion is currently working on her very first album and will be
releasing her single early this year. While having a series of co-writing sessions with other incredible
singers and songwriters, Pitizion has been asked numerous times “where she has been hiding for so
long?”. Pitizion is a powerhouse waiting to explode to share her talent with the world.
